Lidl Grocery Store Headed to Central Park Avenue in Yonkers

International supermarket chain Lidl has announced plans to open a new store in Yonkers.

The Germany-based Lidl operates in 32 countries and employs over 341,000 people. It now seeks to expand its presence in the United States. Lidl’s U.S. operations are headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.

Lidl is known as a discount grocer that offers high-quality food at affordable prices. The supermarket carries both name brands as well as its own Lidl brand products.

The proposed location for the new store is the Central Plaza Shopping Center at 2550 Central Park Ave. Lidl aims to create a 29,208-square-foot supermarket by combining smaller stores within the shopping center. The plan includes the adaptive reuse of space previously occupied by David’s Bridal, Avenue, and Marshalls Shoe Shop. Epstein’s Kosher Delicatessen is currently operating in one of the proposed stores. Central Plaza Associates LLC, the owner of the shopping center, is seeking site plan and special permit approvals for the proposed changes.

To enhance vehicular and pedestrian flow, changes to the surface parking lot are also planned. The number of parking spaces will be reduced from 732 to 696, still meeting the city‘s zoning requirements. A single loading dock will be designated exclusively for the supermarket’s use.

Lidl’s expansion into Yonkers is expected to bring more shopping options and employment opportunities to the area.
